History   

Waffenschule der Luftwaffe WaSLw 50 Aviation School of the Air Force 50 was activated in February 1958 in Erding AB equipped with RF 84F Thunderflash aircraft to train reconnaissance Thunderflash pilots for the Luftwaffe for the establishment of Aufklarungsgeschwader Tactical Reconnaissance Wing AG 51 on 7 July 1959 and AG 52 on 12 December 1959.  

The School comprised three a Headquarters and Groups Flying Group Technical Group and Aerodrome Group. Flying Group controls the two flying training Squadrons 1 and 2 of the Wing and Bildschule Photo School Staffel. Technical Group provided aircraft technical services including maintenance and repair weapons and ammunition survival equipment fuelling fire protection while Aerodrome Group provided non-aeronautical activities and tasks including transportation supplies medical services Aerodrome security and defence runway and airfield repair. 

WaSLw 50 reequipped with G 91 Gina aircraft in October 1960 to undertake G 91 Reconnaissance Weapons Conversion and trained pilots to form AG 53 on 1 October 1960 and AG 54 on 1 April 1962.  WaSLw 50 relocated to Furstenfeldbruck absorbing Flugzeugfuhrerschule Flight Training School FFS B and their T 33A T Bird training aircraft in February 1964 and began providing basic and advanced jet pilot training and Europeanisation of German pilots who had completed basic training in the US prior to their conversion training to the G 91 Gina. WaSLw 50 began training of Fliegerleitoffizieren for the Training Division and air support from April 1964. With all basic and advanced jet flying training relocated to the US in 1967 the School lost its T 33 T Bird trainers in early 1968 while continuing G 91 Gina conversion weapons training. 

Waffenschule der Luftwaffe 50 added aptitude testing of flying candidates for the Air Force to its tasking in 1972 and with its G 91T3 aircraft provided training for Kampfbeobachter Observers later Waffensystemoffiziere Weapon System Officers WSO for the RF 4E Phantom II platform. 

WaSLw 50 was inactivated in October 1978 on its redesignation Jagdbombergeschwader Jabog 49 Fighter Bomber Wing 49.
