History
Jagdbombergeschwader Jabog 43 Fighter Bomber Wing 43 was activated in October 1964 at Oldenburg AB on the redesignation of Jagdgeschwader JG 72 Fighter Wing equipped with F 86 Sabre fighter bombers assigned to 2 ATAF for NATO operations. Jabog 43 adopted the traditions and Viking ship bow NATO cross and arrowheads emblem of JG 72.
The Wing comprises a Headquarters and three Groups namely Flying Group Technical Group and Aerodrome Group. Flying Group controls the two flying Squadrons of the Wing 431 Staffel and 432 Staffel and Flight Operations Squadron. Technical Group provides aircraft technical services including maintenance and repair weapons and ammunition survival equipment fuelling Aerodrome fire protection while Aerodrome Group provides non aeronautical activities and tasks including transportation supplies medical services Aerodrome security and defence runway and airfield repair.
The Wings 1 Staffel Squadron named Foxes and became a member of The NATO Tigers Association in 1969 when part of LeKG 43 even though its emblem is a fox. 2 Staffel Squadron was unofficially named the Vikings.
Jabog 43 was redesignated Leichtes Kampfgeschwader LeKG 43 Light Combat Wing 43 in 1967.
Jabog 43 was reactivated in 1980 at Oldenburg AB on the redesignation of Leichtes Kampfgeschwader LeKG 43 Light Combat Wing 43 when it reequipped with Alpha Jet fighter bombers remaining a member of The NATO Tigers. Jabog 43 continued with the traditions and Viking ship bow NATO cross and arrowheads emblem of JG 72 Jabog 43 was assigned to NATOs Allied Command Europe Mobile Force AMF. The Wing deployed to Erhac AB Turkey for Operation Ace Guard on 6 January 1991 for combat patrols to protect Turkey against attacks from Iraq during Operation Desert Storm returning to Oldenburg on 28 February 1991. The Wing ceased to be a member of The NATO Tigers Association in 1992. Jagdbombergeschwader Jabog 43 Fighter Bomber Wing 43 was inactivated on 30 September 1993.
This patch dates from the 1980s
