History 

Leichtes Kampfgeschwader LeKG 42 Light Combat Wing 42 was activated on 1 May 1967 at Pferdsfeld AB equipped with Fiat G 91 Gina light attack fighter aircraft on the redesignation of Jagdbombergeschwader 42 Fighter Bomber Wing Jabog 42 when Tactical Reconnaissance added to its fighter bomber role. LeKG 42 continued the traditions and stylised speed bird on German cross emblem of JG 73. 

The Wing comprises a Headquarters and three Groups namely Flying Group Technical Group and Aerodrome Group. Flying Group controls the two flying Squadrons of the Wing 421 and 422. Technical Group provides aircraft technical services including maintenance and repair weapons and ammunition survival equipment fuelling Aerodrome fire protection while Aerodrome Group provides non-aeronautical activities and tasks including transportation supplies medical services Aerodrome security and defence runway and airfield repair. 

The Wings reconnaissance role was reassigned to new Luftwaffe RF 4E Phantom Wings AG 51 and AG 52 in 1971 and LeKG 42 was redesignated Jagdbombergeschwader 35 Fighter Bomber Wing 35 on 1 April 1975. .
