History 1956-1978
When 16 Airborne Division was reduced to single brigade – 44 Independent Parachute Brigade Group TA in 1956 16 Airborne Division Provost became the new Brigades provost company as 44 Independent Parachute Brigade Group Provost Company.
On 1 April 1967 44 Independent Parachute Brigade Group TA was reorganised and redesignated 44 Parachute Brigade Volunteers. 1 Parachute Provost Platoon Royal Military Police V based at Tulse Hill London replaced 44 Independent Parachute Brigade Group Provost Company.
1 Parachute Provost Platoon Royal Military Police V was disbanded in 1978 at the same time as 44 Parachute Brigade was broken up with the three volunteer Parachute battalions 4 10 and 15 Scottish and 144 Field Ambulance retaining their parachute role. The provost unit at Tulse Hill became 253 Provost Company Royal Military Police Volunteers 253 Pro Coy RMP V.
