Of Wales Air Platoon was renamed 665 Aviation Squadron in 1969 at Colchester with Scouts. The Squadron provided regular Scout Helicopter Detachments to Northern Ireland.

665 Aviation Squadron was renamed 665 Squadron Army Air Corps on 1 January 1973 and was disbanded on 1 April 1978 on being renamed 657 Squadron Army Air Corps.

665 Squadron was reformed on 1 April 1986 at Aldergrove, Northern Ireland with Gazelle AH.1s and Lynx AH.1s as part of Northern Ireland Regiment Army Air Corps renamed 5 Regiment Army Air Corps in 1993 and has provided support to Army and Police units since.
