665 Aviation Squadron was renamed 665 Squadron Army Air Corps on 1 January 1973 and was disbanded on 1 April 1978 on being renamed 657 Squadron Army Air Corps.
665 Squadron was reformed on 1 April 1986 at Aldergrove, Northern Ireland with Gazelle AH.1s and Lynx AH.1s as part of Northern Ireland Regiment Army Air Corps renamed 5 Regiment Army Air Corps in 1993 providing support to Army and Police operations.
