25 City of Perth Squadron was reformed at RAAF Pearce in April 1948 as a Citizen Air Force unit to train reservist pilots and ground crew. The Squadron received Vampire jets and took over responsibility for maintaining a fighter air defence presence in Western Australia. The Squadrons flying role ceased in 1960 and began to concentrate on providing ground support for Permanent Air Force units. In 1989 the Squadron resumed flying operations when it reequipped with Macchi jet trainers to provide jet introduction training and fleet support for the Royal Australian Navy and became the only reserve unit with operational aircraft.

On 1 July 1998 the Permanent Air Force component and flying training operations separated from the reserve element and reformed as 79 Squadron. 25 Squadron returned to its role of providing a reserve pool of trained personnel to the Air Force and forms part of the RAAFs Combat Reserve Wing.

This patch dates from the 1980s.
