EF 18 Hornet fighters were received in 1986 and designated C 15 by the Spanish Air Force C stood for Caza Fighter and 15 represented the 15th fighter type in service since the creation of the Spanish Air Force Ejercito del Aire. The Hornets were assigned to 15 ALA at Zaragoza AB and its 151 Escuadron Cara A Cara Face To Face was the first Squadron to receive the EF 18 Hornets being declared combat ready in September 1988. 151 Escuadron was tasked with  all weather interception.
