Squadron History

1706 Air Refueling Wing Provisional AREFW P formed in September 1990 at Cairo West Airport Egypt for operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm to provide air refuelling support to coalition forces. 

The Wing controlled KC 135R Stratotanker aircraft with three deployed from 905 Air Refueling Squadron 319th Bombardment Wing Grand Forks AFB North Dakota from 28 September 1990 to March 1991 and from 9 Strategic Reconnaissance Wing Beale AFB, California 9 October 1990 to March 1991 and KC 135E Stratotanker aircraft with ten deployed from 126 Air Refueling Squadron 128 Air Refueling Wing Volk Field Air National Guard Base Wisconsin Air National Guard 30 December 1990 to March 1991 and three aircraft deployed from 116 Air Refueling Squadron 141st Air Refueling Wing Fairchild AFB Washington Air National Guard 30 December 1990 to March 1991. 

The Wing was inactivated on 24 May 1991.
